Planning & Development

Planning and Development Directorate is responsible for overseeing the physical and economic development of the Rumphi District Council. To fulfil this mandate, the Directorate implements various programs, projects, and activities through five divisions, which are described below.

• Coordinating all development programs and projects that are being implemented in the local council for both donor and government funded.
• Facilitating the formulation of Social Economic Profiles and Development Plans for the council. Blue print for development strategy for the council.
• Make sure that plans are executed professionally and resources are mobilized for the same purpose.
• Facilitate the formulation of physical development plans for the councils
• Monitoring the implementation of development projects; providing regular checks in person and teams, coming up with terms of reference on the visits and reporting.
• Facilitating participatory community based development planning and budgeting.
• Planning the integration of all cross cutting issues into development process i.e. environment, gender, HIV/AIDS, Human rights, disability, disaster etc
• Facilitating sectorial coordination of the development activities with partners
• Providing strategic direction on the utilization of the District Development Fund and other Development funds at the council
• Carrying out project desk and field appraisals and general feasibility studies. In the course advising the councils which project can be implemented based on environmental impact assessment and cost benefit analysis
