Agriculture Services

The directorate is responsible for overseeing strategic planning and sustainable development initiatives.

• Delivery of Agricultural Extension and advisory services
  1. This includes training farmers, mounting demonstrations, conducting field days in demonstration sites as well as promoting farmer-to-farmer extension and adoption of improved technologies.
• Technology promotion & climate smart agriculture
  1. This involves promotion of improved crop and livestock technologies, soil & water conservation and climate adaptation practices.
• Market linkage & agribusiness support
  1. This function involves facilitating access to input and output markets, bulking, value addition, as well as contract farming.
• Livestock disease control & animal health and plant protection services
  1. The activity involves provision of vaccinations, dipping, spraying, deworming, treatment and disease and pest surveillance surveillance.
• Regulatory and administrative services
  1. This is where registration of FBOs, lead farmers, farmer database management, FISP beneficiary management take place and where permits for livestock movements are provided
• Farm mechanization
  1. Access to and use of agricultural machinery and equipment is promoted. Support includes tractor hire coordination, promotion of small-scale machinery such as and shellers and ox-carts. Training farmers and cooperatives in machinery operation and safety.
